What a Detangling Session Involves
Every booking starts with a free 10-minute consultation, in person or over WhatsApp. I look at the hair, tell you honestly whether it can be saved without cutting, and give you a realistic time estimate before you commit to anything. No session goes ahead until you know what to expect.
A 10-minute assessment of the matting, the cause and the hair type. You get an honest answer on whether cutting can be avoided and a clear time estimate. Nothing is charged for this.
Worked through by hand and with the right tools, section by section. No rushing, no shortcuts and no scissors unless there is genuinely no other option. One client at a time, in a private room.
Before you leave, you get a simple routine to keep the hair from matting again, matched to your hair type and daily life. No products are pushed on you.
The Questions People Actually Ask Me First
Can my hair actually be saved, or are you just going to cut it?
Send one photograph on WhatsApp and you have the answer within hours, at no charge. Across more than 1,000 cases the mat has come out without shaving. In a typical case most of the hair stays on the head, and what comes away is hair that had already shed and was trapped inside the mat. When a general salon attempts the same work the figure is nearer 60% to 70%, which is why so many people are told the only option is to shave it. If I look at a photograph and think the hair genuinely cannot be saved, I tell you that instead of taking the booking.
What is this going to cost me, in total?
The rate is £100 per hour and the consultation is free. A £100 deposit holds the appointment and comes off the final total, so it is not an extra charge on top. Most sessions land in one of the three bands below, and the consultation puts you in a band before you commit. There is no separate charge for products, aftercare advice or the assessment itself.
What if it takes longer than you estimated?
The estimate is the range I work to. If the hair turns out denser than the photograph showed, I say so at that point rather than at the end, and we decide together whether to carry on or split the work. Severe cases are routinely done across two sessions so that nobody sits for ten hours in one go. You are not charged for time you did not agree to.
Will you judge me for letting it get this bad?
No. Hair mats through illness, depression, hospital stays, chemotherapy, surgery recovery, exhaustion and simply not having the capacity, and none of that is a moral failing. Around 42% of the cases I see are linked to a period of depression. I work with one client at a time in a private studio, so nobody else is in the room and nobody is waiting. How the hair got this way does not change the work or the price.
Who am I trusting with my hair?
My name is Vitalii and this is the only thing I do. No colour, no cuts, no blow dries, only matted hair, since 2020. I hold 23 training certificates and every one of them is published in full on the credentials page, so you can check them before you send a message instead of taking my word for it. Finished work, including cases other salons refused, is in the before and after gallery.
Simple, Hourly, No Surprises
The rate is £100 per hour. Matted hair is unpredictable, so I price by time rather than a flat fee, and the consultation gives you a realistic range before we start. Most cases fall into one of three bands.
Surface tangling or a few weeks of buildup. £200 to £300.
Dense matting through part of the head. £400 to £600.
A single solid mat or months of neglect. £700 to £1,000.
What is included, and what is extra
The hourly rate covers the assessment, the products, the detangling itself and the aftercare advice. A £100 deposit secures the appointment and comes off the final total. Home visits anywhere in London are a flat £200 on top of the hourly rate, which covers travel and the equipment I bring with me. A maintenance session afterwards, to keep the hair from returning to that state, is £100. Severe cases can run across two sessions if needed, so you are not sitting for ten hours straight. Deposit terms, cancellation notice and the payment methods I accept are set out on the payment page.
Cases Most Salons Won't Take
A lot of the people I see have already been turned away somewhere else, or told the only answer is to shave it off. That is almost never true. Since 2020 I have worked on matting caused by depression, hospital stays, chemotherapy, surgery recovery, postpartum exhaustion, autism, chronic illness and elderly care.
Every hair type, from 1A straight through to 4C coils. Tangling that built up over two weeks, and tangling left for over two years. The youngest client I take is three years old, because below that age a child cannot reasonably sit through the work. If the hair has already fused into one solid mat rather than tangling in sections, matted hair removal in London covers that case in more detail.
There is no judgement here. How the hair got this way does not matter to me. Getting it back does.
Referring a Client, a Patient or a Resident
Social workers, district nurses, occupational therapists, ward staff, care home managers and support workers refer people to me regularly. If you are arranging this for somebody in your care, here is what you need to know before you pick up the phone.
- My training is on public record. All 23 certificates are published on the credentials page, so you can check them before you put my name in front of a family, a manager or a safeguarding lead.
- You can arrange it on their behalf. Send a photograph and a short description of the situation, including anything I should know about mobility, dementia, sensory sensitivity or anxiety.
- I come to them. Home, hospital and care facility visits are available across every London borough, at a flat £200 on top of the hourly rate. Arrival is discreet and unmarked.
- The assessment costs nothing. You can get an honest answer on whether the hair is saveable before committing anyone to anything, and before a shave is put on a care plan.
- The estimate comes first. £100 per hour with a time range agreed in advance, so a budget holder knows the figure before the visit.
- Written quotes and invoices are available where an organisation is paying rather than the individual. Ask when you make contact.
- Minimum age is three. For children, a home visit usually works far better than the studio.

Studio Visits and Home Visits Across London
The studio is on Adenmore Road in Catford, three minutes from Catford Bridge station, with a private parking bay. Most clients come to me. If travelling is hard, whether because of mobility, illness, anxiety or caring for someone who cannot leave the house, I also do home visits anywhere in London for a flat £200 on top of the hourly rate.
People travel in from across the city and well beyond it for this, because there are very few places that do only this and nothing else. If you are not sure whether it is worth the trip, send a photograph on WhatsApp first and I will tell you honestly.
Detangling in London, Answered
How do I find out whether my hair can be saved without cutting?
Send a photograph on WhatsApp to +44 7902 020201. I reply with an honest answer on whether the hair can be detangled without cutting and a realistic time estimate. There is no charge for this and no obligation to book. If I think the hair cannot be saved, I say so rather than take the booking.
How much does detangling cost in London?
Detangling is charged at £100 per hour. A £100 deposit secures the appointment and comes off the final total, so it is not an extra charge. Mild cases take 2 to 3 hours, moderate cases 4 to 6 hours, and severe cases 7 to 10 hours. Home visits anywhere in London are a flat £200 on top of the hourly rate. The consultation itself is free.
What happens if the session takes longer than the estimate?
The estimate comes from the consultation and is the range I work to. If the hair turns out to be denser than the photograph showed, I say so before continuing rather than after. Severe cases can be split across two sessions so nobody sits for ten hours in one go. You are never charged for time you did not agree to.
Is there a minimum age for detangling?
Yes, three years old. Below that age a child cannot reasonably sit through the work, and the scalp is too delicate for the tension involved. For children I usually recommend a home visit, because a familiar room and their own things make a long session far easier to sit through.
Can I book on behalf of somebody else?
Yes. A large share of my bookings are made by a relative, a carer, a support worker or a care home. Send the photograph and tell me the situation, including anything I should know about mobility, dementia, sensory sensitivity or anxiety. Home, hospital and care facility visits are available across every London borough.
Will you judge me for letting it get this bad?
No. Hair mats through illness, depression, hospital stays, chemotherapy, surgery recovery, exhaustion and simple lack of time, and none of that is a moral failing. I work with one client at a time in a private studio, so nobody else is in the room. How the hair got this way does not change the work or the price.
